Hon. Mr. Škromach, Vice President of the Senate
Excellencies of the Diplomatic Corp,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I warmly welcome and thank you all, distinguished guests, for attending today\s reception.
For diplomats, it is always exciting and challenging to be assigned to a new posting. This is exactly I am feeling right now. In fact, I am envied by many of my friends, who are fascinated by the natural beauty and the cultural attraction of the Czech Republic. After three weeks of my arrival, I am already convienced that the charm of this country and Prague in particular, is true to its fame.
The timing of my assignment is opportune. The host country has got a new government accompanied with expectations both at home and abroad. Our two countries are celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations this year. It is a time to look back to draw upon the past experiences, and also a good opportunity to charter a course for the future development of the relations.
In the last few weeks, I have had discussions with Czech officials and representatives from business and cultural circles. I am inspired by the readiness from the Czech side to further enhance our bilateral cooperation and also impressed by the engerness to learn more about China.
Indeed there are plenty of potentials to be tapped in our bilateral cooperation. The Czech Republic has strength not only in its well known traditional manifacturing industries, but also in advanced technologies of various sectors. For our part, China has entered a new phase of development with comprehensive reform and opening up. China\s GDP grew by 7.7% last year and is expected to grow at an average of 7.5% annually in the coming years. China's annual imports are approching 2 trillion us dollars. Chinese consumers bought last year 21 million cars, more than a quater of global car sales. The potential of the huge Chinese market will be further unleashed, which provides opportunities for the rest of the world, the Czech Republic included.
According to our statistics, in 2013 bilateral trade between our two countries reached 9.45 billion US dollars,an increase of 8.3% from previous year, and two way investments have also increased. With the new platform of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries, we look forward to an even more dynamic cooperation with the Czech Republic.
We believe it is in the interests of our two sides to forge a healthy, stable and sustainable relationship. We need to know each other more , better understand and respect the other side. Therefore more cultural, educational and people-to-people exchanges are certainly desired and encouraged.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I feel privileged to be assigned to the Czech Republic. There are so many things to learn and so many undertakings to accomplish. I will join colleagues from my Embassy and the Czech side in promoting mutual understanding and win-win cooperation between our two countries. I am also looking forward to the valuable support of all of you present here today.
May I propose a toast,to the betterment of the relations between China and the Czech Republic,And to the health of all the guests,
