On December 18, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated the position of China on Palestine issue during his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.

Wang Yi said, choosing Palestine as the first stop of the visit to the Middle East is because Palestine is a good friend and a good partner of China. This visit to Palestine aims, first, to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during President Mahmoud Abbas's visit to China in May this year and to further deepen the traditional friendship between China and Palestine, second, to support the peace talks process between Palestine and Israel according to the important four-point proposal raised by President Xi Jinping on resolving Palestine issue and to ensure the positive role of China in the process.

Wang Yi said, China has always supported the Palestinianpeople for their just cause of restoring legitimate national rights. This piece of land has always been the home shared by Palestinian and Israeli people. Israel has been an independent state for over 60 years while the wish of the Palestinian people to achieve the independence and to set up their own state is yet to be realized. It is unjust and unreasonable, and should not continue.

Wang Yi pointed out, war can never work. Violence can only enhance hostility. And peace talks chart the only course. It is the only way out for Palestine issue that Palestine achieves its independence and establishes Palestinian state while Palestine and Israel peacefully co-exist with each other. It is also to guarantee the lasting peace and long time secutiry in the Middle East.

Wang Yi stressed, China supports the ongoing peace talks between Palestine and Israel. We sincerely hope that both Palestine and Israel could seize the valuable opportunity, moving forward in the same direction, showing good wills to each other and to find the solutions at an early date. As a permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations, China will continue to play our own role in promoting Palestine-Israel peace talks and will make our own contributions to the process.
