2013-12-19 14:33

On December 17, 2013, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin attended the reception celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China Center (ACC), and delivered a speech.

Liu Zhenmin said that in 2011, China and ASEAN leaders jointly unveiled the plaque for the center, initiating a new platform for cooperation between the two sides. For the past two years, the center has done a lot of fruitful work to promote cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism, etc. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership. For the past decade, the bilateral relationship has been developing vigorously and innumerable achievements have been made in cooperation. The development of China-ASEAN relations not only has promoted the respective economic and social development, but also has made positive contributions to the peace, stability and prosperity of the region.

The new generation of Chinese leaders attaches great importance to developing ties with ASEAN. President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqing visited Southeast Asian nations successively in October this year, during which they proposed a series of major initiatives including creating a China-ASEAN community of common destiny, building the maritime silk road of the 21st century and the "2+7 Cooperation Framework". As an international inter-governmental organization for both sides, the ACC should closely focus on the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides, give full play to its own advantages, blaze new trails and push forward the pragmatic cooperation, promote people-to-people friendship and exchanges and enhance mutual understanding and trust between both sides so as to play a greater role in upgrading comprehensively the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

The reception was immersed in a warm and friendly atmosphere, and about 300 people attended the reception, including Bruneian Ambassador to China Magdalene Teo, Arthayudh Srisamoot, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs of Thai Foreign Ministry, Ma Mingqiang, Secretary-general of ACC, and people from other related circles.
