Ambassador to ASEAN Yang Xiuping Hosts the 3rd Meeting of the Joint Council of the ASEAN-China Center

On December 17, 2013, Ambassador to ASEAN Yang Xiuping and Haji Rozaimee DP Haji Abdullah, Acting Head of Trade Promotion of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei co-chaired the 3rd Meeting of the Joint Council of the ASEAN-China Center in Beijing. Representatives from ASEAN member states as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, and Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Center Ma Mingqiang were present at the meeting. Representatives present at the meeting deliberated the report of ASEAN-China Center Joint Executive Board, and adopted ASEAN-China Center's Annual Report of 2013, the Plan of Operation and Work Programme of 2014 as well as the Proposed Budget of Operational Expenditure of 2014.

Ambassador Yang said in her speech that this year marks the 10th anniversary of establishment of China-ASEAN strategic partnership, and it is also the year to comprehensively deepen and expand the business of ASEAN-China Center. With strong support of ASEAN and China and around the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of ASEAN-China strategic partnership, the ASEAN-China Center has earnestly implemented the Plan of Operation and Work Programme of 2013, carried out numerous activities with rich content and remarkable achievements in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture, tourism and so on. It has also pushed forward relevant pragmatic cooperation, promoted non-governmental exchanges among different countries, being fully affirmed by all circles in both countries. China attaches great importance to the important role of ASEAN-China Center, and wishes that the Center will continuously improve the institution, fully mobilize resources from all parties, further well-play the role of one-stop platform so as to make greater contributions to promoting China-ASEAN cooperation.

Representatives from ASEAN member states appreciated the achievements attained by the Center in the past two years since its establishment. They believed that the Center has made outstanding contributions to promoting ASEAN-China cooperation in trade, investment, education, culture and tourism as well as improving people's cognition of both sides in ASEAN-China relations. They believed that the center will complete the scheduled work plan, continuously expand its influence, so as to play a greater role in promoting China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

Ambassador Yang also attended the reception celebrating the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN-China Center held on that evening, and the Inauguration Ceremony of the establishment of the ASEAN-China Language and Culture Centre as well as Opening of the ASEAN Film Week held on the morning of December 18. After that, Ambassador Yang accompanied the delegation of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to AESAN to visit Yiwu in Zhejiang Province.
