Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom of Ethiopia

On January 6, 2014, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Ethiopia enjoy profound traditional friendship. The comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries has distinctive features. The close high-level exchanges between both sides play an important leading role in promoting the development of China-Ethiopia relations. Economic and trade cooperation is fruitful. Trade volume continues to expand and mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of infrastructure construction, manufacturing, the industrial park construction and communications has been unceasingly explored. China has become Ethiopia's largest trade partner and source of investment. People-to-people and cultural exchanges are in full swing and have always been at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation.

Wang Yi expressed, China is ready to work closely with Ethiopia to step up efforts to implement the consensus between the state leaders, so as to push forward China-Ethiopia comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new high. Both sides should maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen personnel exchanges at all levels including the government departments, legislative bodies and ruling parties, share more experience on state governance and continue to offer firm support to each other on issues concerning core interests and major concerns. Both sides should promote economic and trade cooperation. China will continue to provide help within the ability for Ethiopia's economic and social development and encourage competent and credible Chinese enterprises to invest and develop their business in Ethiopia. China also hopes that the Ethiopian side will provide facilitation and support. Both sides should enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, deepen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, health, scien-tech and aviation, and discuss and sign as soon as possible an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports. To strengthen consultations and cooperation on major international and regional issues, to work together for contributing to the cause of peace and development in Africa and to safeguard legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Tedros Adhanom said that Ethiopia and China are sincere partners. Bilateral relations are getting increasingly close and the areas of cooperation have been unceasingly explored with fruitful outcomes. China's economic help has boosted Ethiopia's economic competitiveness. Ethiopia appreciates China's important role in the cause of peace and development in Africa. Ethiopia is ready to work with China to maintain exchanges of high-level visits, to promote practical cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education and health and to strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional issues including East Africa affairs so as to unceasingly add strategic contents to bilateral relations.
