Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping Attends SCO Vice Foreign Ministerial Level Consultation on Regional Security Issues

On January 22, 2014, the Vice Foreign Ministerial Level Consultation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Regional Security Issues was held in Moscow. The Consultation was chaired by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping led a delegation to attend the Consultation. Representatives of the foreign ministries or diplomatic envoys to Russia of the SCO member states, observer countries and dialogue partners, SCO Secretary-General, and Director of the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure (RCTS) and others participated in the Consultation. The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan Jan Kubis and representatives from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and Anti-Terrorism Center of the Commonwealth of Independent States and others attended the Consultation upon invitation.

Cheng Guoping expounded China's stance and proposition by analyzing the current situation in Afghanistan, the SCO's measures in participating in the resolution of the Afghan issue and so on. He said that China supports the efforts made by the international community on the issue of Afghanistan's peaceful reconstruction, and is willing to make contribution to safeguard the security and stability in Afghanistan and promote its economic development.

During the above Consultation, Cheng Guoping also held bilateral meetings respectively with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov, Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Ershad Ahmadi and Pakistani Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohsin Razi on the China-Russia, China-Afghanistan and China-Pakistan relations.
