China and Russia hold the Sixth Meeting of the Joint Committee on Proper Use and Protection of Transboundary Waters

From January 23 to 24, 2014, China and Russia held the sixth meeting of the Joint Committee on Proper Use and Protection of Transboundary Waters. The Head of the Chinese delegation was Chairman of the Joint Committee of the Chinese side and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin, while the Head of the Russian delegation was Chairwoman of the Joint Committee of the Russian side and Head of the Russian Federal Agency for Water Resources Marina Seliverstova. The representatives from Ministries including Foreign Affairs, Water Resources and Environmental Protection as well as relevant local governments in border regions of the two countries were present at the meeting.

The meeting was conducted in an down-to-earth atmosphere of mutual trust, friendship. The two sides spoke highly of the important role the Joint Committee has played in the proper use and protection of transboundary waters, reviewed and summarized the working achievements since the fifth meeting of the Joint Committee, made work arrangements for 2014. Both sides also had an in-depth and extensive exchange of views on relevant issues in the field of transboundary waters and signed the minutes of the meeting.
