Li Keqiang Meets with US Secretary of State John Kerry

On February 14, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Li Keqiang said, positive progress has been made in China-US relations over the past year. President Xi Jinping had two successful meetings with President Barack Obama. Bilateral trade volume reached US$500 billion. As the largest developing country and the largest developed country, China and the US maintaining strategic communications and cooperation will help advance the process of building the new model of major-country relations between China and the US, as well as promote peace, development and prosperity of the region and the world. Both sides should adhere to mutual respect and equality, care about each other's core interests and major concerns, develop bilateral relations in a more practical and open manner, so as to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

Li Keqiang said, hope China and the US will actively advance negotiations on the bilateral investment treaty, deepen cooperation in energy, environmental protection and other fields, and step up technical cooperation coping with climate change. Hope the US side will move forward in respect of direct export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China and joint development of shale gas.

Li Keqiang pointed out, the next year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Only by facing up to history and taking history as a mirror, can we stop the painful history of wars from repeating itself. China is willing to join the efforts with all peace-loving people in the world to jointly safegurd peace and tranquility of the Asia-Pacific region and the world.

John Kerry noted that it is of utmost importance for the US and China to carry out constructive dialogue and cooperation. The US is willing to expand practical cooperation with China in economy, trade and other fields, to advance negotiations on the bilateral investment agreement, to strengthen communications in coping with climate change and other global issues, to boost the new model of major-country relations between the US and China, and to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
