Li Keqiang Meets with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain at the Great Hall of the People

On the afternoon of February 20, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang of China's State Council met with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said, the China-Pakistan all-weather friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of the peoples and is unbreakable. Yesterday, President Xi Jinping and Mr. President reached important consensus on comprehensively deepening the bilateral relationship. The Chinese side is willing to jointly safeguard and consolidate the traditional friendship and the bilateral relationship with the Pakistani side, and work hand in hand to meet challenges and achieve common development.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important strategic decision made by both sides, which has set up a new framework and opened up new space for the bilateral practical cooperation. He hoped that the two sides will focus on the cooperation in energy, transport infrastructure and industrial parks and so on, well implement major cooperative projects including electricity and new energy, well manage Gwadar Port, and promote the construction of interconnection projects including highways and railways, forming a three-dimensional pattern, so as to promote the comprehensive development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The quality of Chinese equipment is assured, so the two sides can strengthen the cooperation in this regard. He hoped that the Pakistani side will take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan.

Li Keqiang expressed that the Chinese side is willing to further closely cooperate with the Pakistani side on international and regional affairs, better support each other, and jointly commit to promoting the peace, stability and prosperity in the region and even the world.

Hussain expressed that the Pakistan-China friendship is the backbone of Pakistan's foreign and security policy, and also the consensus of the whole society in Pakistan. The successful visit of Premier Li Keqiang to Pakistan last year has deepened the bilateral strategic and cooperative partnership. The Pakistani side is willing to continue to firmly support each other with the Chinese side so as to push the Pakistan-China relationship to move ahead more vigorously. The Pakistan-China Economic Corridor is a symbol of the Pakistan-China friendship which is making positive progress. Pakistan is willing to join hands with China to promote the construction of the project, and push the cooperation in key fields such as infrastructure and energy to a higher level. The Pakistani side will take measures to protect with all strength the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan.
