Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki Meets with Wang Yi

On February 23, 2014, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the prime minister's office.

Nuri al-Maliki said that Iraq and China enjoy long-term friendship, and Iraq thanks China for supporting and helping with the reconstruction of Iraq all along. In recent years, cooperation between the two countries has produced remarkable achievements, and China has become Iraq's biggest trading partner. The Iraqi side has a strong desire to expand cooperation with China, and hopes to strengthen cooperation with China not only in economy but also in politics, security and other fields. Iraq has confidence in Chinese enterprises and welcomes more Chinese enterprises strengthening investment in broader fields of Iraq.

Wang Yi said that China is a sincere friend of Iraq and rejoices over the positive fruits achieved in the process of Iraq's political and economic reconstruction. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Iraq, and firmly supports Iraq in maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, in speeding up the political reconstruction and national reconciliation, and in combating terrorism. China is willing to strengthen all-round cooperation with the Iraqi side, continue to enhance mutual political trust on the basis of inheriting the traditional friendship between the two peoples, give full play to the strong economic complementarities of the two countries, and promote the sustained and in-depth development of the bilateral relationship.
