Wang Yi Meets with Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi

On February 23, 2014, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi in Baghdad.

Wang Yi said that China and Iraq enjoy long-standing and well-established friendship, the ancient “Silk Road” has linked together the two big countries with ancient civilizations, and the profound friendship between the two peoples has laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations. In recent years, the China-Iraq relations have made substantial progress, and cooperation in various fields has produced fruitful results. China's National People's Congress (NPC) attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and is willing to continue to strengthen friendly exchanges and exchange experiences in the governance and administration of state affairs. China is willing to continue to strengthen exchanges with various parties in Iraq to enhance understanding, strengthen mutual trust, jointly promote exchanges and cooperation in all fields and benefit the two peoples.

Osama al-Nujaifi said that China and Iraq enjoy a long history of friendship, and the current cooperation between the two countries is facing important opportunities. The reconstruction of Iraq is faced with multiple challenges and needs to strengthen cooperation with China, and cooperation will benefit both sides. The Iraqi Council of Representatives is looking forward to strengthening exchanges and contacts with China's National People's Congress to promote the friendship between the two peoples and the bilateral cooperation in various fields.
