On February 23, 2014, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari jointly met with the journalists. During the interview, Wang Yi said that his visit to Iraq was a "tour of support and cooperation" and China would provide Iraq with support to the best of its ability in three aspects.

First, firmly supporting Iraq to safeguard its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Iraq experienced all kinds of sufferings in history. Since modern times, the people of China and Iraq have sympathized with each other and have supported each other in their struggle for national independence. No matter how the international situation changes, China will never change its position of supporting Iraq to safeguard its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Second, firmly supporting Iraq to speed up the process of political reconstruction and national reconciliation. Whether it is Shiite, Sunni or Kurdish, they are all equal and important members of the big Iraqi family. China supports the related parties to promote reconciliation and gather consensus. China supports Iraq to find a development path suited to its own national conditions. As a Chinese saying goes, "When brothers unite together, their strength can break through any barrier as hard as metal." Wang Yi expressed the belief that different parties in Iraq could unite together and successfully complete the parliamentary elections and other important political agendas, which would build up a solid foundation for accelerating reconstruction.

Third, firmly supporting the Iraqi government to oppose all forms of terrorism. The proliferation of terrorism is the greatest threat and challenge facing Iraq. The Iraqi people are the victims of terrorism. If this problem cannot be resolved, it would be impossible for the Iraqi people to live a better life. China will work with the international community to keep supporting the necessary measures taken by the Iraqi government to combat terrorism and safeguard national security and stability.
