Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin Visits the DPRK

From February 17 to 20, 2014, Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin visited the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) at the invitation of DPRK Foreign Ministry. He held meetings and talks respectively with DPRK Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun, Vice Foreign Ministers Kim Hyung Jun and Ri Yong Ho, Deputy Director of the International Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Korean Workers Party (KWP) Kim Sung Nam and Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Economic Development Lee Chul Seok, and had extensive and in-depth exchanges of views on China-DPRK relations and the situation of the Korean Peninsula.

Liu Zhenmin expressed that China attaches great importance of China-DPRK relations and is willing to strengthen political communication with the DPRK, to respect each other's interests, to expand practical cooperation and to promote sound and stable development of the bilateral relations.

Liu Zhenmin stressed that China adheres to the goal of denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, safeguarding the Peninsula's peace and stability and solving the problems through dialogues and consultations. China will never allow any war or chaos on the Peninsula. Liu Zhenmin said China supports the DPRK to improve its relations with the Republic of Korea (ROK) and speaks highly of the progress both sides recently achieved through dialogues. He hoped that all parties concerned will join efforts to promote the ease of the situation as well as peace and stability on the Peninsula, creating favorable conditions for an early resumption of the Six-Party Talks.

The DPRK side expressed that to constantly consolidate and develop the traditional DPRK-China friendly cooperative relations is the KWP and the DPRK government's unalterable stance. DPRK is willing to join hands with China to push forward bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Achieving the denuclearization on the Peninsula is the testament of late Chairman Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and also the DPRK's consistent position. DPRK is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China, spare no effort to ease the situation and advance the resumption of the Six-Party Talks, and work together to safeguard peace and stability of the Peninsula and the region.
