From February 24 to March 1, 2014, Assistant Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang respectively co-hosted the 21st China-Australia political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries in Canberra with Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia Gillian Bird and the 19th China-New Zealand political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries in Wellington with Chief Executive and Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand John Allen.

Both the two sides of China and Australia and of China and New Zealand made positive comments on the bilateral relations and believed that China-Australia and China-New Zealand relations are facing new opportunities for further development. Both sides have agreed to make joint efforts to well plan for the high-level exchanges in the next phase, to deepen practical cooperation in various fields and to strengthen dialogue and coordination on international and regional affairs, so as to push forward China-Australia strategic partnership and China-New Zealand comprehensive cooperative relationship to achieve greater development.

During his visits to Australia and New Zealand, Assistant Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang respectively met, in Australia, with Prime Minister Tony Abbott, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Joseph Noozhumurry Varghese, Senior Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security Affairs Andrew Shearer, and in New Zealand, with Senior Advisor to Prime Minister on International Affairs Mark Higgie, Chief Executive of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) Andrew Kibblewhite, Chairman of the New Zealand-China Council Don McKinnon and others, and held discussions with experts and scholars of Australia and New Zealand.
