Xi Jinping Makes Important Instructions on Loss of Contact of a Malaysian Airlines Flight, Urging Full Efforts for Emergency Management and Follow-up Work for Chinese Citizens
Premier Li Keqiang Gives Instructions on Rescue and Follow-up Work

At 0:42 on March 8, 2014, a Boeing 777 passenger plane of Malaysia Airlines bound for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia (Flight MH370) with 239 people on board, among them 150 plus Chinese passengers. At 1:20am, the plane lost contact with the ground control. Malaysia Airlines issued a statement saying that it is working with search and rescue agencies to locate the plane.

Upon receiving the news, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, immediately made important instructions, requiring the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as relevant Chinese Embassies and consulates overseas to strengthen their contacts with relevant departments of the countries concerned, follow up closely the update of the search and rescue work and make all-out efforts for emergency management and the follow-up work for the Chinese citizens. The relevant departments including the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration are required to activate emergency mechanism immediately, to coordinate with each other to make sure all works going well, and at the same time to intensify the security checks in the civil aviation to ensure the absolute safety of China's civil aviation operation.

Li Keqiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, made instructions on the rescue and follow-up work, requiring the relevant departments to strengthen communication and contact with the departments of Malaysian civil aviation, urge more intensified research efforts, verify the detailed information of the Chinese passengers on board as soon as possible, prepare for the emergency rescue with other countries, and make timely and proper arrangements for the family members of the passengers on board.

The departments of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Administration, along with Chinese Embassies in Malaysia and Vietnam, have already launched the emergency mechanism and will make all-out efforts for the emergency management.
